The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and get them off the board faster than your opposing player who works just as hard to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Winning a game in Backgammon requires both strategy and fortune. Just how far you will be able to shift your chips is left to the numbers from rolling the dice, and how you move your checkers are decided on by your overall playing plans. Enthusiasts use a number of techniques in the different stages of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Strategy

The aim of the Running Game tactic is to bring all your pieces into your inner board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This technique focuses on the speed of shifting your pieces with no time spent to hit or stop your competitor’s chips. The ideal time to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own pieces quicker than your opponent does: when 1) you have less pieces on the board; 2) all your chips have past your opponent’s chips; or 3) the opponent does not use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main goal of the blocking technique, by its name, is to stop your opponent’s chips, temporarily, not fretting about shifting your pieces rapidly. After you have established the blockade for the opponent’s movement with a few checkers, you can move your other chips quickly off the board. You should also have a clear strategy when to back off and shift the checkers that you used for the blockade. The game gets intriguing when your opposition utilizes the same blocking technique.
