The Essential Facts of Backgammon Strategies – Part 2

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and luck. The goal is to move your pieces safely around the board to your home board while at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular tactics at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely block any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. As soon as you have successfully constructed the prime to block the movement of the competitor, your competitor does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you move your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to boost your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game technique utilizes different techniques to do that. The Back Game plan is generally employed when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
